Finals Playoff Schedule

Finals Playoff Drawings - These are a series of playoff table diagrams that will be printed out on A3 paper, pasted near the command post, for everyone to observe and have a clearer picture of the developing playoffs. It also serves as a graphical representation of entire playoff proceeds for your reference.

Game Duration/Rules
- WFDF rules
- Games to 13, time cap @ 60mins.
- Time cap, finish point, if:
(a) >1 point lead = win;
(b) 1 point lead = play to new target, +1 of higher score;
(c) tie = universe point
- 1 timeout per half, 60sec
- Half time @ 30mins or 7 points, 5mins duration

Lunch Break
- All teams will have a game rest either at the 12.15pm slot or the 1.30pm slot. Do take this time to release your team mates to make lunch plans during this time. There will be not be lunch provided! Only meal provided is dinner @ the league party!

**PUNCTUALITY**
Please help us get your team ready for games well on time! Nobody likes being a hard ass but we are running a tight ship for everyone's playing enjoyment!

The League committee would like to extend our Congratulations to Sponge Block and Flickstones for scaling through the league and making it to the top of their respective tables! Sponge Block winning 13 or their 14 games and Flickstones maintaining a clean and unbeated record of 14/14.

We certainly hope that you have enjoyed yourselves during the past 11 weeks of games.

However, its not over yet! There is still the Open's playoffs and League Finals for both Open's and Women's Division. Will both Sponge Block and Flickstones be able to win a double and etched their names in the historical books of Singapore Ultimate?

This is a very important announcement.

For the future of any leagues/tournament/competition that will be held in Seng Kang and the image of UPA (S), please abide by these rules:

Do not leave your litters behind. We have trash bags for you.
Do not sit or occupy the pavement. Since you are going to get dirty during the game just sit on the grass...
Do not practice throwing the disc along/across the pavement. We do not wish to injure any pedestrian who are using the pavement.

It's everyone responsibility to play a part and abide to the rules mention above. Each of us who are involved in the league represents UPA (S)

Bad Weather Evacuation Plan

Under what condition should we stop playing?

When the rain is so heavy and it affects our vision or the lightnings are very close to us.

To calculate how far away the lightning is:

Watch the sky for a flash of lightning.
Count the number of seconds until you hear thunder. If you have a watch with a second hand or a digital watch that has seconds, begin timing as soon as you see the lightning and stop as soon as you hear the thunder start. If you don’t have a watch, do your best to count the seconds accurately. Say "One one thousand, two one thousand etc." in your mind for each second.
Divide the number of seconds by 5 to calculate the distance in miles (or divide by 3 for kilometers). In other words if you counted 18 seconds from when you saw the lightning, the strike was 3.6 miles (6 kilometers) from your location. The delay between when you see lightning and when you hear thunder occurs because sound travels much, much more slowly than light. Sound travels through air at about 1100-1200 feet (330-350 meters) per second (depending on altitude, relative humidity, pressure, etc.), which is a little more than one mile per five seconds (one kilometer per three seconds). In comparison, the speed of light is 983,571,058 feet (299,792,458 meters) per second.
For example, if lightning strikes a point 1 mile away, you will see the strike approximately .00000536 seconds after the strike while you will hear it approximately 4.72 seconds after the actual strike. If you calculate the difference between these two experiences, a person will hear a strike approximately 4.71999 seconds after the strike actually occurred. Therefore, 5 seconds per mile is a fairly robust approximation.

Bad Weather Evacuation Plan:

Everyone will be evacuated to Block 201 which is across the road away from Compass Point. Please do not seek shelter at the bridge near the SMRT station.

League organizer will sound off the air horn and make a loud announcement.
If you are in the middle of a game, stop the game immediately and head back to grab your personal belongings.
The "Bad Weather Evacuation" ICs will lead you all to a sheltered area.
The league organizers will assess the weather condition and decide if it is safe to continue. Please wait for further announcement from the "Bad Weather Evacuation" ICs at the designated area.
While waiting for announcement, please do not disturb the neighborhood by making loud noises, blocking the common walk way.

What happen if the game is cancelled due to bad weather?

The League organizers will slot in the game at another league week. Lengthening of the league period will be the last resort. As much as possible, we do not want to postpone the league finals.

FAQ about Floater!

If you want to play in the league and not join any team, you can come in as a floater.
If you plan to float, please take not that your participation will be CLOSELY scrutinized by Team Captains and subjected to approval from both sides. Floater fee will be SGD$10 per week and collected on the spot by league organizers. NO PAY, NO PLAY. Floaters are required to report to the league organizers at the field. We apologize that we are unable to guarantee play-time. Assignment to a team is subject to the teams' requirements on the day, payment of fees, the agreement of the team captains concerned, and at the discretion of the league organizers.

Floater fees: $10 per week

Team captains please take note, if

there are any people who want to float for your team. Please redirect them to the league organizers.
your team is short of players, you can inform the league organizers. If there is any floater, they will assign him accordingly to the attendance of each team.

Note: teams that put identified payment defaulters, or illegal players (meaning people who were not drafted into the team) on the line during league games will be hit with an automatic 7-point penalty on game score

Important Announcement 2 (Registration)

Hi Dear Ultimate Playing people,

After much debate, we have decided to cap the registration

@ 14 teams of 18 people for the Open Category = 252 people.
@ 6 teams of 18 people for the women Category = 108 people.

Therefore, the first 252 people who pay up for Open category and the first 108 who pay up women Category, will granted the right to be drafted. For those who make their payments after that, they will be put on a waiting list.

The reason for doing this is mainly due to the physical and logistical constraints that we are subjected to, e.g availability and size of fields, number of teams/captains. In order to ensure that all participants have ample playing time, this cap has to be enforced.

If in the advent that the League Committee is unable to allocate you a team, you will be given a full refund. However, this is on a case to case basis.

Due to overwhelming response for the winterleague, the league committee has decided to close all registrations on Monday 2359hrs. Late entries will not be entertained. Unless u have a darn good reason... This is to due to the fact that there are limitations to the number of usable space (without breaking too many ankles) at Seng Kang fields, and not wanting to flood the teams with too many people and compromise registrant's play time. We hope to have your understanding in this matter.

Ideally we would like to cap the max number of open Cat Registrants @ 252. And Max number of women Cat Registrants 108. So sign up fast! Just 2 more days.

Penalties for Late payments are still in place and will be strictly enforced. So make your payments by the 10th Nov 2359hrs.

Yes! The days of exciting and fun-filled Sunday afternoons are finally upon us again! As previously detailed in our FAQ, our Winter League 2008/2009 program will start off with a series of Beginners Clinics. To recap, here is the relevant information in the FAQ that some of you may have missed out on:

Q) What are the clinics for?
A) The clinics are for
1) People who are playing the game of Ultimate for the first time
2) People who are curious to try the “organized” form of Ultimate
3) People who are still very new/blur to the game and would like to improve their skills/game awareness
to understand and learn more about the game in a relaxed setting.

Q) What are the important dates?
A) Keep 2 and 9 Nov free! They're both Sunday aftenoons.

Q) Where will the clinics be held?
A) Seng Kang. Directions can be found here.

Q) What time will clinics start/end each week?
A) Clinics will start at around 1400hrs. They are slated to end at 1700hrs, although of course you are under no obligation to stay the whole course if you have other matters to see to. For the hardcore attendees, we will have pickups (it’s basically just an excuse to play more games) from 1700hrs till sunset.

Now, the REALLY IMPORTANT questions:

Q) Is it free?
A) YES!

Q) Can/Should I bring my friends down, even if they’ve never thrown anything in their lives?
A) YES!

Q) What should I bring?

A) Water, one dark and one white top, cleats, and a ready-to-have-fun attitude!

Q) What can I expect to see/learn/experience in the clinics?
A) You can expect, in the clinics, to
1) Learn to throw (backhand, forehand…), run (cutting…), and catch (pancake…)
2) Apply what you have learned in the form of fun games, and learn basic rules and strategies at the same time (vertical stack, horizontal stack, disc space, stall count…)
3) Experience first-hand the friendly, helpful, outgoing and sociable nature of Singapore’s Ultimate community!

Q) Sounds exciting! Do I need to register? Do I need to be a league registrant to be able to take part?
A) NO NEED! In fact, if you are not sure about registering for this league, all the more you should come down and try out the sport!

Q) What is the theme of this year's league?

A) CARTOON CHARACTERS! Come dressed in a Mickey Mouse Outfit, or wear a t shirt bearing your favourite Cartoon Character! Let live the child in you!!

Q) Will I get to make more friends?!?

A) It IS a League! Unless you are anti-social, what do you think!!? What's more, you are going to want to look your best because there're going to be 2 divisions: an OPEN division where boys and girls get to play around together in the same team!!; and a WOMEN division where girls get to play around together in the same team!! So if you are lucky, you might catch someone kissing someone else!

Q) WHO can join the league?

A) Anyone, regardless of skill, experience, language, race or religion! As long as you have the interest, you are more than welcomed to sign up!

Q) Fantastic! What if I am new to Ultimate? Can I join?!

A) Yep! Most definitely!! In fact, YOU are what we are looking for!! And to show you that we mean it, we will even throw in 2 Ultimate clinics before the registration deadline to introduce you to the basics of Ultimate before the league itself!!! Courtesy of kind volunteers and your wonderful Captains!

Q) What are the clinics for?

A) The clinics are for

people who are playing the game of Ultimate for the first time
people who are curious to try the "organized" form of Ultimate
people who are still very new/blur to the game

to understand and learn more about the game in a relaxed setting. Do attend other pickups around Singapore so that you will be well-prepared when league comes.

Q) Can you explain further the difference between the OPEN and WOMEN divisions?

A) OPEN means that the line (that's the term we call for players of a team that's on the playing field for a particular point) of opposing teams are under no obligation to stick to a gender ratio. In an extreme case, that means 7 guys vs. 7 ladies. Therefore, we expect only females who can tough it out with the guys (the ladies from local competitive clubs including Shiok and Freakshow, for example) to join that division.

Q) What can I expect in this league?

A) You can expect a "beginner-friendly, increasingly competitive" league. That means you will be thoroughly introduced to the game of Ultimate in a relaxed setting through clinics and pick-ups. The first few games will also be focused on teaching and learning. However, Intensity is bound to pick up through the league as everyone will be more familiar with the game and its strategies.

Q) Can my friends and I be in the same team?

A) Yes, you and ONE OTHER FRIEND, called the buddy rule (for same-gender pairs in the WOMEN and OPEN division), or the honey rule (for mixed gender pairs in the OPEN division). The only condition is that ONE OR BOTH of you must qualify as inexperienced. Inexperienced is defined as

Not ever trained with a club (school teams are not clubs) >1 year OR
Not ever taken part in any major tournament (major tournament being defined as Sing Open, or any overseas tournament)

Q) GREAT! So how do I register?

A) Registration is online only and you can do it here

Q) Wow! I see an indemnity form. Do I need to fill it in?

A) If you are below the age of 18 as of Nov 30 2008, you are required to submit a copy of this form, filled in by your parent/guardian beforehand, to the league organizers, by Nov 30. The form can be found at the front page of www.singaporeultimate.com, in the link "The Indemnity Form (for those under 18)". Penalties will likely be imposed on recalcitrants at the discretion of league organizers.

Q) Will there be a league party?

A) There's definitely gonna be something in stored for everyone. More details will be released at a later date.

Q) Is the league party only for league participants?

A) Technically yes. BUT since it's a nice and friendly season, we have decided to let non-league participants join in the fun as well. Apart from having to pay for your own drinks, you'd just probably have to come dressed as something. Then again, this should not really be an issue because WHY would anyone NOT be a participant of this year's league?

Q) What is the difference between the regular league and the league finals?

A) Regular league
Teams face each other in a round robin format and matches are played over 8-10 weeks with 1-2 games per week. At the end of the regular league, scores are tabulated and teams will be seeded according to how well they perform during the league.

League finals
Based on the seedings in the regular league, teams will play against each other in a 1 day event competition where a winner will be crowned.

Q) How much do I have to pay to play in this league?

A) League fees:	$30

UPA(S) membership:	$20

Discounts

Registration Fees for Captains is ($30 - $10) = $20!
Registration Fees for Students is ($30-$10) = $20! (student being defined as being a member of a Sec, JC, Polytechnic or ITE, as of 30 Nov. 2008)

Penalties

Late Fee (fees paid after registration deadline) will be +$10 (Strictly enforced).
Super Late Fee (fees paid after draft) will be +$20 (Strictly enforced), with draft and playing rights assigned ONLY BY league organizers.
No guarantee of actually being drafted and playing, as it will be subject to availability of team slots.

Q) What if I can only make it for one or 2 games? Would it be cheaper?

A) Nope, the league fees are fixed and not refundable regardless of the number of games you play.

Q) Why do I need to pay UPA (S) membership?

Q) How about Floaters? Are those sort allowed?

A) Floaters are people who did not register for the league but want to play anyway and come down hoping to get a game While Floaters are allowed in this league, we do strongly encourage players to register for the league instead of floating for teams. If you must, do note that your participation will be CLOSELY scrutinized by Team Captains and subjected to approval from both sides. Floater fee will be SGD$10 per week and collected on the spot by league organizers. NO PAY, NO DRAFT. Floaters are required to report to the league organizers at the field. We apologize that we are unable to guarantee play-time. Assignment to a team is subject to the teams' requirements on the day, payment of fees, the agreement of the team captains concerned, and at the discretion of the league organizers.

Note: teams that put identified payment defaulters, or illegal players (meaning people who were not drafted into the team) on the line during league games will be hit with an automatic 7-point penalty on game score.

A) We accept cash payments too! We will be planting money collectors at pickups and clinics. Check Singapore Ultimate forums for updates on Money collection. Please ensure that you keep the receipt upon payment, for verification purposes.

Q) How many teams will there be?

A) Depending on the sign-ups, we're looking at teams with a size of 15 onwards. I know this does not answer the question, but if YOU JOIN, and you get ALL YOUR FRIENDS TO JOIN, there will be A LOT OF teams. =)

Q) How are teams formed?

A) Captains will choose players according to their seeds which will be decided by a drafting committee.

A) If you have the passion to lead a team, and the desire to teach and develop new players, you are what we are looking for. Do indicate your interest in the sign up form.

Remember, Captains get discounted league fees.

Q) What are the game rules?

A) We will apply the WFDF 2008 rules.

Game total of 17 points with Hard Cap at 90 minutes, whichever occurs first.
Time-outs - each team gets one time-out per half, plus one 'floating' time-out which may be used in either half (total 3 time-outs per team per game). Each time-out lasts 1 min.

Q) Who do I blame if things go wrong?

A) No one! We should all be happy and jolly even if things go wrong. Definitely not a time to point fingers. No No No.

Penalties

Late Fee (fees paid after registration deadline) will be +$10 (Strictly enforced).
Super Late Fee (fees paid after draft) will be +$20 (Strictly enforced), with draft and playing rights assigned ONLY BY league organizers.
No guarantee of actually being drafted and playing, as it will be subject to availability of team slots.

League Format

There are 2 categories in this league:

OPEN
WOMEN

Difference between the OPEN and WOMEN divisions

OPEN means that the line (that's the term we call for players of a team that's on the playing field for a particular point) of opposing teams are under no obligation to stick to a gender ratio.

In an extreme case, that means 7 guys vs. 7 ladies. Therefore, we expect only females who can tough it out with the guys (the ladies from local competitive clubs including Shiok and Freakshow, for example) to join that division.
